Speakers In The Rear Deck
Gordy writes "I have noticed quite a few people asking questions about headrest speakers and thought I would tell you of an alternative mounting point which can be used instead of or in addition to these speakers.
If you remove the carpet on the rear shelf you
will notice that there is quite a large area on each side of the petrol
tank and a long thin space infront of it.
The Gap on either side is big enough to accept a 6x9" speaker and the
long thin gap can accomodate a 4" speaker. In my car I have fitted
Infinity Kappa CS-1 component speakers in these positions. The CS-1 is
a three way component speaker with a sepatate crossover network (which
can also be fitted in the long thin gap). The tweeters for these units
are fitted flush in the seatbelt turrets, which is as high and wide
appart as possible for good sterio separation. The 4" mid range units
fit in the position mentioned earlier and sit facing forward just
either side of the centre console so as not to be obstructed by the
seat. The base driver sits in the shelf facing upwards.
I have all the speaker cones visible but for a stealth install I
believe they could be mounted under the shelf and covered with a
sutable accousticly transparent carpet. If this is too much then a pair
of three way dual axsis 6x9" speakers mounted ether side of the fuel
tank should also provide a good result.
Also Clearwater custom make a subwoofer box which fits in this position
along the whole back shelf but I dont know if this is avalable in the
UK.
Sorry but i don't have any photos of my install but I could take some
if people are interested.
